Hehe…

May 3rd, 2008 by admin

It’s really been too long since I updated this blog! A few topics have been swarming around in my head, though not really relevant to what I’ve been talking about on this blog…. On the other hand, I suppose a few might be able to fit.

A few topics I’ve been contemplating:

  • True Success
  • Which Life?
  • Family or Finance
  • The Successful Mindset
  • Easy, or Hard?

… Just to name a few.

I’ll make some posts on these over the next week or two… I’d love to hear some feedback on these posts too!

vut are you…

This one made me laugh….

StumbleUpon: 6 Things To Remember.

April 24th, 2008 by admin

You’ve pretty likely heard of stumbleupon. It’s a great social bookmarking tool that helps you stumble across cool webpages. If you haven’t signed up Go Ahead And Do It.

Now, down to Business. These are some things that I really want to remind people of when using StumbleUpon.

1. There is a thumbs up, and a thumbs down.

Ok, I’m all for giving somebody a thumbs up, but I’m also all for giving them a thumbs down. If you don’t like what you see, tell stumbleupon so! This can also help to keep other people from seeing it… if it’s really garbage, don’t let SU get cluttered!

2. Report sites.

In the tools menu there’s a little option called “Report Last Stumble“. Use it. “Last Stumble” means your most recent stumble. If you happen to hit the “Stumble!” button before reporting, just go to the review page of the site and there’s a flagging option down in the sidebar.

3. Tag and review.

There’s two options in your toolbar that you probably don’t use a lot of. Tag and review are made for if you really really liked the page, or if you thought it should have a bit more broad of reach or whatever. You can leave negative reviews, and sometimes these can be helpful, so go ahead and do so. If you think the site deserves more reach, give it extra tags! It’ll reach more people that way.

4. StumbleThru

There’s a little icon up there with a couple of arrows that you can use to stumble through certain websites. If you’re in the mood for video, but don’t want to use their Stumble Video function, here’s an option! There’s YouTube and Metacafe in there.

5. Channels

There’s a menu on your toolbar that, right now probably says “All” on it. This is a really handy feature actually; it lets you stumble within certain interests. So basically, if you’re in the mood for canoeing, you can just stumble through that.

6. Groups

This has nothing to do with the toolbar really, but groups are a great way to interact with people. Basically like StumbleUpon’s version of forums.

(Thanks Karl!)Bonus Tip: Search

If you click that “All” tab again, you’ll notice there’s a “Search…” option. Use that for stumbling withing specific tags; It’s a handy alternative to the stumble categories.

Alright, that’s everything. Now, go out and enjoy your stumbleupon experience!

Hi there…

This is a real “Uncategorized” Post. I’m just going to yammer on a little and see how you’re doing :)

How are you? Hope you’re doing as great as I am. It’s been an interesting week for me so that’s why my posts have been a little bit spaced :) Really sorry about that though… I’ve been feeling about as uncreative as it gets towards blogs posts. On the other hand, I’ve been doing a lot of php scripting to make up for it :)

Stay tuned for a few days, because I’m going to be posting some Free downloads for you to use at your pleasure :D Just a few resources that have helped me along the way. You’ll be able to download them, read them, use them, sell them and (if you decide they’re not for you) delete them. So, keep watching.

And to conclude the post, Have a great day! There never was a better day to live than the one you’re in. :)

Web 2.0 Buttons Are Really Really Easy

April 17th, 2008 by admin

ok, this is basically a tutorial. I’m just going to demonstrate how easy it is to get this “Web 2.0″ style.

This is the gimp, but it shouldn’t be much harder in photoshop(heck, I bet you could do it in paint if you wanted to!)

ok, so let’s make a new image.

Then we’ll fill it with whatever background color we want (I’ll use black because it matches my theme)

Now we’ll add some text just for effect.

Now comes the web 2.0 part. There’s a few different styles, so I’ll go through them right quick.

Make a new layer. Layers > New Layer make the height half the height of the image.

Now here’s the styles you can do:

Quick And Easy
Gradient
Curved

Quck And Easy

Fill the top layer with white.

Now go in to the layers menu. Main Gimp Window > File > Dialogs > Layers.

Then adjust the opacity of that top layer to less (I put mine at 25)

And finally, put your text on top.

Gradient

ok, now for this method, just select the gradient tool.

Next we’ll select “FG to Transparent”

Then make sure you’re in your new layer.

Then run the gradient tool from the bottom of the IMAGE top the top of the image.

Then go to the layers menu (Main gimp window File > Dialog’s > Layers) and then reduce the opacity of that layer to less than it is. (I used 65)

And then, finally, put the text layer on top.

Curved

Now we’ll do web 2.0 curved style.

Fill your layer with white.

take the elipse tool.

make the layer taller by about 20 pixels, then select it just like this.

ctrl+X should erase it.

Then you want to go in to the layers panel. (Main Gimp Window File > Dialogs > Layers) and lower the opacity of this layer to less than it is (I used 30).

And there you have it. Try it with the gradient too.

As you can see, all of the buttons simply require lowering the opacity to create an illusion of depth.

Yep, that’s everything!

Comment if you want :)

The Successful always…

April 11th, 2008 by admin

“The successful always has a number of projects planned, to which he looks forward. Anyone of them could change the course of his life overnight.”
–Mark Caine

Wait a minute… that’s what I do!

Success quotes always range from one to the next. One says you have to take risks, the other says you have to be smart. One says you have to focus on one project, and another says you have to have multiple projects going! What is the secret to success?

Let’s just think for a minute. Success can happen to some of the most focused or scatter-brained… So it must not really have anything to do with it! Then it can also happen to the risk taker, and the conservative. There must be something different that applies to success.

From all of the information I’ve gathered, and all of the sources I’ve seen, there’s just a few ingredients to success.

You need to be persistent, you need to be open minded and willing to learn and implement, you need to be patient, and you need to be bold.

Otherwise, there’s more that I can’t think of.

Comment with your thoughts.
